Hello guys!
I'm sure everyone's feeling overwhelmed after this week!!! Well, I certainly am although i am more relieved to finally get into the swing of things. My organisation is still rubbish but i suppose that's to be expected. I even bought a folder for each subject and another to keep my newspaper clippings and whatever else i find interesting in. 5 pads to go with them aswell so as you can imagine my arm was about ready to drop off. :]
So just gunna reflect on the week then guys. . . Rachel's lecture was interesting. Like learning the biological and legal description of family and different perspectives relating to the family in society such as the functionalist and marxist perspective. Im still dreading the presentation and mini assignment though for december.
Fiona's lecture was confusing to start with when writing down the different areas of child development (P.I.L.E.S) but when relating these components to theories of learning I understood as i had studied a few of these theories in GCSE psychology such as Piaget's theory of Cognitive Development. Like we learnt in that lecture, I remembered that Piaget believed children were active in their learning and i believe that myself as I watch my son learn so many new things. I feel more prepared for this theory of learning with my little experience in studying psychology so I intend to research more into Piaget's theory. I liked Fiona's lecture in Child development as she allows you to think for yourself more and then challenges your thoughts with different aspects of the theory like a way of making you think outside the box or your box so to speak :]
The second part of Fiona's day was to help bring our study skills to degree level which totally confused me in most aspects such as building our portfolio and then learning that techniques that were drilled into you doing A-Levels are totally wrong at degree level like referencing. So i think its fair to say I will be struggling with this but on the bright side I learnt Im a Kinaesthetic learner. woo!
In Lin's lecture we looked at Nature and Nurture in more depth such as their definitions like nature relating to the child's genes and nurture relating tothe child in the environment. It was a bit difficult writing down points off the slideshow as Lin skipped through them quickly but she says thats to be expected once we start at the University.
So overall a good week really! Looking forward to the trip tomorrow. Anyway post again soon!! xx
